Nail Strengtheners
Nail strengtheners fortify dry, brittle and cracking nails. These products bond to the nail plate and some also infuse it with various things such as vitamins, nutrients and various other chemicals. Some have been known to contain calcium, silk, fluoride, iron and even estrogen. Since nails are slightly porous, many of these chemicals get absorbed somewhat into the nails. Moisturizing elements help to keep the nails a bit flexible so they bend instead of break. These strengtheners also strengthen by binding nail layers together and filling in ridges. They also prevent chipping and can smooth out uneven nails. They normally come in bottles much like nail polish and are applied much the same before the base coat. Some types are combined into a base coat for convenience. These products are sometimes rated for the kind of nails they are intended for to ensure that consumers get a product specifically applicable to the condition of their nails. For example, there are products that are tailored for dry and brittle nails, while others are for peeling and sensitive nails and others for soft and thin nails. Some strengthening products are also available as creams that can be massaged into the nails, nail base and cuticles regularly. These products work on a deeper level to stimulate healthy, vigorous nail growth. Nail Strengthening systems are usually multi part products that contain several different products to be applied to nails. Some multi part formulas first, add moisture and nutrients to the nail, then another part seals in the moisture and nutrients and another part acts as a hardening agent to protect against chipping, breaking etc. They can also incorporate creams to work at a deeper level in addition to the other products. These systems, however, vary greatly in the chemicals and steps they use to achieve the desired result. These systems usually offer more comprehensive solutions to weak nails. Keep in mind that continuing to strengthen nails that are strong enough can result in them becoming brittle. Once optimal hardness has been achieved you should switch to more of a maintenance role instead of applying more strengtheners to your nails.
